Can you believe 2016 is almost over? It has been an exciting year in many ways, and there are a lot of things to be grateful for. In the past year we started Sleeves & Legs Sewing Patterns, designed our first pattern, tested it and launched it in November. Here’s a look back at what Sleeves & Legs got up to in 2016, and a sneak peek into our plans for 2017!
A year of firsts
2016 was a year of firsts: After our start in april 2016, there was the adventure of the first pattern: the Aiden hoody that launched in November 2016. The Aiden was a first, not only for us but also in sewing land: the design came in three different heights, so no matter how tall the men in your life is, there is always an Aiden hoody that fits him!
Producing the Aiden hoody taught me a lot: how to design patterns in three different heights, grade patterns, work with Illustrator to digitalize them and sell them in our (brand-new) shop. And because of all those firsts, it took a bit longer then expected, but guess what: it is our best (& only) selling sewing pattern for 2016!
We also started an almost weekly blog about pattern adjustments, sewing techniques etc. And give short sewing tips every thursday on Facebook & Instagram. Sneak peeks of patterns or test models can also be found on those channels. Exciting stuff that a lot of you like!
And now 2016 is almost over…. and an exciting new year is about to happen. Plans have been made, goals have been set and I’m about to give you a sneak peek into 2017.
Sneak peek into 2017
There will be new sewing patterns for (t)all men! What kind of patterns? That’s still in the planning phase, but I can tell you that pants are first on the list. And the smaller or younger men in your life will not be forgotten. Just keep an eye on this blog or our Social media (Facebook & Instagram), as we will reveal more in time…
The blog will keep you updated on all things pattern related but also on my menswear sewing adventures as a student of the Master Tailor Institute in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Master Tailor Institute is a foundation dedicated to re-establishing quality tailoring to the Netherlands. I’ll be a student of the 4-years part-time education program that trains students to become master tailors who can exercise their profession to the highest standards for theater groups, designers or independently.
And guess what… I’m going to share that knowledge with you. Not just on the blog, in our e-mail newsletter or on Social Media but also in real life, as sewing menswear workshops in the Netherlands are being planned as we speak! Topics are still undecided, so if you have any suggestions, write a comment under this blog.
2017 is going to be an exciting year, that’s for sure! But first I’ll take a week off from blogging and relax with my family and friends around the Christmas tree.
I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
See you again in 2017 with lots of exciting news from Sleeves & Legs.
